About SVI
SVI is an independent medical research institute conducting medical research into the cause, prevention and treatment of diseases that are common and have serious effects on health. We strive through our research to help alleviate the enormous financial, emotional and physical impacts of these diseases on individuals, their families and the community.

Obesity and heart disease
Arthritis and osteoporosis
Cancer and the spread of cancer
Infectious diseases such as Hepatitis and AIDS
Alzheimer's and other neurological disorders
SVI is affiliated with St Vincent’s Hospital and the University of Melbourne and is a member institution of the Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
SVI hosts the National Serology Reference Laboratory and is a member of Bio 21; the NHMRC Centre for Clinical Research Excellence in Diabetes (CCRE), located on the St Vincent’s campus; the St Vincent's Diabetes Centre of Excellence; the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes; and is accredited by the NHMRC. Through these links SVI provides a valuable service to clinical medicine, graduate education and community welfare.
