Summary
AMPK phosphorylates and inhibits rate limiting enzymes in fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis, namely, acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1 (ACC1), 2 (ACC2) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGR). We have generated mice containing Ala knock ins; ACC S79A, ACC2 S221A and HMGR S871A to block AMPK signalling to these enzymes and determine the physiological contribution of AMPK at the whole body level.
