SVI tours

Find out first-hand about research at SVI

You are welcome to tour the laboratories, meet with our researchers and hear about the cutting-edge of medical research into diseases that affect all Australians, including type 1 and 2 diabetes, heart disease, bone diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.

Tours take about one hour and can be tailored to suit your availability and interest in a particular disease.

Jade Erickson recently toured the Institute’s Immunology and Diabetes Unit with her family. Her interest in type 1 diabetes springs from the fact that both her husband and son have the condition.

She says, “It was quite overwhelming to actually meet the people who are dedicating their lives to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. I've never had any experience with 'scientists' before. It might sound a bit odd, but I think I was a little bit surprised at how 'normal' they were. Not only are they mums themselves, so they probably run the household and do everything that I do, but they are also working on something that will change the lives of hundreds of thousands of people - including Justin and Mick. We think they are amazing!
