Ways To Give

“Timing counts. Not just in medicine, but in philanthropy, too. I invite you to support our ground breaking research without delay. Patients and their families are depending on us. Hope begins here.” Professor Tom Kay, SVI Director

There are many ways to give to SVI, and your generous support will be a tremendous source of inspiration as we make discoveries that improve the health of Australians.

Think about your daily spending habits – a cup of coffee here, a newspaper there. Inexpensive on their own, but over time the cost adds up.
It’s exactly the same with regular gifts to SVI. Donating as little as a dollar a day for a year can do more for our medical research than you might think.

When you donate monthly, you help us to plan ahead. A regular income stream from recurring donations gives us the confidence to invest in long-term projects that will have the greatest impact. It also reduces the time we spend administering one-off gifts, so it is one of the most cost-effective ways to support our work.

Making a regular gift is quick and easy. Simply set it up and relax, knowing that your money is being spent wisely on research that will transform lives.

Workplace giving is a great way to contribute to a healthier future for Australians. Everyone wins – employees, employers and SVI’s research.

Employees: Making a regular gift from your pre-tax salary is one of the simplest ways to support our work. You’ll reduce your taxable income, and because it’s managed through your work payroll system, you don’t need to worry about keeping receipts for tax time.

Employers: Offering your staff the opportunity to donate to SVI allows you to demonstrate your support for life-changing medical research. It can also be a motivator for employees to work towards a shared philanthropic goal.

Our research: When SVI enters into a workplace giving partnership with an employer, it really maximises the value of every gift. We can reap tax benefits that amplify the impact of every dollar donated, keep administration costs down, and use the promise of regular income to plan our research strategically.

A bequest is an immensely powerful way to make a difference, whether you’ve been personally affected by the diseases we study at SVI, or simply want to invest in the future health of our community.

Those who provide for SVI in their Wills are welcomed into the Jack Holt Society, named for the man who left the first bequest to the Institute with the goal of providing long-term financial stability to pursue cutting-edge medical research. Members receive special recognition and are invited to exclusive events to thank them for their incredible commitment.

For more information or a confidential discussion about making a gift to SVI in your Will, contact the SVI Foundation at [email protected] or (03) 9231 2480.

“I have visited SVI and met with the dedicated scientists who are working tirelessly to find the answers to our questions we as a society want to know. I see my bequest as an investment, knowing that my support will be used for the benefit of the whole community. Remembering SVI in your Will is a simple and powerful way to make a positive difference for the health of our children. My wife, Pauline, died of Alzheimer’s disease so by visiting the institute I was able to find out what we know about the disease and the promise that research holds. I feel very humble and grateful to be able to be a part of assisting the scientists at SVI to continue their research.”
- Arthur Stokes

Making a donation in memory of a loved one who has passed away is a very special way of commemorating their life.

Many families ask mourners at a funeral to donate to SVI instead of giving flowers. We can assist by supplying donation slips, envelopes and a drop box at short notice.

You can also make a direct donation in memory of a loved one, or establish an ongoing contribution to mark a birthday or other significant event in their life. And if you’d like, we can send an acknowledgement of your gift to the next of kin, including a personal message of support from you.

By donating to SVI in memory of a loved one, you are not only celebrating their life. You are helping to create a healthier future for generations to come.

If you, your family or friends have been touched by disease, making a donation to SVI in lieu of a gift on a special occasion is a wonderful way to show that you care.

Your generosity will support vital medical research and help create an impact that lasts far longer than most presents.

Whether your donation is in celebration of a birthday, wedding, anniversary, bar or bat mitzvah or some other special date, it will help our researchers do their best work.

We are here to help if you would like to make a donation in lieu of a gift or ask guests to your celebration to support SVI in lieu of a gift to you. Contact the SVI Foundation at [email protected] or phone 03 9231 2480, for more information.

The Discovery Fund is your chance to join a remarkable community advancing medical research.

Each of our Discovery Fund members has made a visionary investment in the future. Collectively, they are building a permanent endowment that generates an income stream enabling SVI to continue its life-changing research for many years to come.

Members make a tax-deductible gift of $10,000 pledged annually for five years. This extraordinary commitment is recognised by inviting members behind the scenes at SVI: they can see our work first-hand, meet our researchers, and enjoy opportunities to catch up with old friends and make new ones at exclusive events, including the annual Discovery Fund Member Luncheon.

Many members renew their support for a further five years after completing their pledge to the SVI Discovery Fund, or simply continue to donate $10,000 annually. One-off gifts of all sizes are also gratefully appreciated.

Ground-breaking medical research takes more than skill. It takes the passion and commitment to push boundaries and redefine what is and isn’t possible. And it takes infrastructure – laboratories, tools and technologies. Without this, the ideas and theories generated by even the brightest minds will never be translated into effective treatments.

By joining the SVI Catalyst Circle, you can help create the high-tech environment our researchers need to excel, and to break new scientific ground.

The Catalyst Circle welcomes those who give $10,000 or more over the course of a year to help fund the purchase of powerful equipment and instrumentation.

Members’ generous gifts have immediate impact: they are used in the same year to give SVI researchers across all disciplines the state-of-the-art equipment they need for their research to flourish.

Joining the Catalyst Circle is your chance to lay a vital foundation for world-class research that will change lives.
