Through the work of our more than 250 staff and students, SVI strives to improve the health and life-expectancy of Australians. We work collaboratively to tackle some of the nation’s most critical health challenges, including cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, infectious disease and dementia.

With an exceptional pool of internationally recognised researchers and a growing corpus of state-of-the-art facilities, our purpose is to make medical discoveries that transform lives – now and into the future.

We are proud of SVI’s positive working culture and are committed to an inclusive and safe working environment.

With our values of integrity, open-mindedness, dedication and excellence, we place emphasis on career development, flexible working and workforce benefits.

  • Flexibility

SVI recognises the importance of flexibility in working hours for parents and others who have caring responsibilities. We encourage staff to propose flexible working hours that provide a reasonable balance between work requirements and personal needs.

Meetings are scheduled to begin after 9.30am and conclude prior to 4.30pm, to provide additional flexibility for working parents.

Staff can purchase an additional 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks of annual leave (on top of the standard 4 weeks per year).

We also offer paid parental leave.

SVI is committed to providing a diverse and inclusive work environment where individual differences are respected and valued.

Our Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee oversees relevant strategy and activities. Comprising a representative group of scientific and administrative staff and students, the Committee supports the promotion of an EDI agenda across the Institute.

This includes equity for diverse genders, sexes, sexualities, socio-economic statuses, ethnicities, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, disabilities and medical conditions (including mental health).
