Advancing Personalised Cancer Care Through Research

St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research (SVI) in collaboration with St Vincent’s Hospital is home to one of Australia’s leading clinical and translational research programs for multiple myeloma — a rare and complex blood cancer.

We are currently seeking philanthropic support to fully establish and sustain the Myeloma BioBank and Registry. This critical initiative collects and stores blood and bone marrow samples from patients at the time of diagnosis. These samples are essential for:

  • Immunological and genomic studies that help predict individual treatment responses
  • Developing personalised therapies tailored to a patient’s unique biology
  • Enabling new investigator-led clinical trials to address unmet needs
  • Driving innovations that improve patient outcomes and quality of life

Current Progress Thanks to generous philanthropic support and competitive research grants, we have already:

  • Biobanked over 100 individual patient samples
  • Raised over $100,000 towards our $500,000 target
  • Led five national, investigator-initiated clinical trials, with results that continue to shape care for Australians living with multiple myeloma

We are also actively refining our processes for collecting and storing samples to enable molecular testing to be performed more easily and efficiently.

Support Us To build on this momentum and secure the long-term future of the BioBank, we aim to raise $400,000 over the next four years. Your support will help fund a dedicated scientific team to process, analyse, and maintain these valuable patient samples — laying the groundwork for discoveries that will benefit patients today and into the future.

This important research is led by Professor Hang Quach, Associate Professor Elaine Sanij, and Dr Matthew James Rees.
